Use project templates

Project templates in Fusion Online allow you to standardize project creation, reuse successful structures, and support resource load analysis across similar projects. A project marked as a template behaves just like any other project, but with a few important differences that make it easier to use for planning and modeling.

Mark a project as a template

To turn any project into a template:

  1. Go to the Project Details view.

  2. Check the Is Template checkbox.

  3. Click Save.

The project is now designated as a template, and a "T" will appear on the project badge throughout the application.

Use a template to create a new project

When creating a new project in Fusion Online, you can select from existing templates to copy their structure. This helps ensure consistency across similar projects and saves time by reusing prebuilt:

  • Task networks

  • Resources

  • Calendars

  • Other project settings

This is especially useful for repeatable or process-driven work, such as:

  • Client onboarding projects

  • Software release cycles

  • Construction or rollout phases

Use templates in resource load aggregation

In resource views, project templates serve a second purpose: they allow you to group and analyze resource load across multiple projects.

Here’s how it works:

  • In a resource view, you can select a template to group resource load.

  • Fusion will use the resources defined in the template to aggregate load from the projects that match the current filters.

  • When doing this, Fusion will not include the template’s own load in the aggregation—only the projects that match the template structure.

For more on using this feature, see the resource views reference documentation.

Why use project templates?

Project templates help teams:

  • Save time by reusing proven structures

  • Ensure consistency in project setup

  • Improve planning by aggregating resource needs
