Reschedule a project

While projects in Fusion Online are typically updated regularly to reflect progress and maintain the schedule, there are situations where a full reschedule is appropriate. Rescheduling recalculates the critical chain and creates new buffers based on the current state of the project, fully protecting the remaining work.

When should you reschedule a project?

Rescheduling is not a routine action—but it can be a useful tool in your project recovery plan when:

  • The network has changed significantly – If you've made major structural changes (e.g., restructured task sequences, added new scope, or redefined endpoints), your current buffers may no longer align with the true risk in the network.

  • Delays have shifted the landing zone – If your estimated completion date has moved far beyond the current buffer, the original schedule may no longer be meaningful.

  • You're resetting expectations – In some cases, a reschedule can be part of a realignment effort with your stakeholders or team.

  • Credibility or consistency needs to be restored – If the model has drifted too far from reality, rescheduling helps reset the logic and restore clarity.

Rescheduling does not "fix" a delayed project. It doesn't remove risk or reduce workload. But it does create a fresh model that accurately reflects where things stand—and protects what’s left—so that the team can move forward with focus.

How to reschedule a project

  1. Go to the Project Details page.

  2. Click the action menu (...) in the top-right corner.

  3. Select Reschedule.

  4. Review the confirmation dialog and proceed.

Fusion Online will recalculate:

  • The current critical chain

  • New buffer durations, based on the updated task network

  • Updated projected finish dates

The rescheduled model becomes the new baseline for continued execution.
